This presentation is aimed mainly at dog owners, people working in shelters, novice trainers, and other professionals interested in learning how to housetrain a young puppy or dog rescued from a shelter or situation of confinement.

The following topics will be explored in detail: physical causes of inappropriate elimination, behavioural causes of inappropriate elimination, times when your puppy is likely to need to urinate or defecate, dogs rescued from shelters or other situations of confinement, eliminating is intrinsically reinforcing, management at home, training program, fading out reinforcers.

In this webinar attendees will learn to speed up the house training process by:

1 - Using appropriate cleaning products while avoiding the ones that actually attract the puppy.

2 - Correct placing and use of puppy training pads.

3 - Using a hierarchy of reinforcers

4 - When, where and how to reinforce.

Attendees will also learn about the most common physical and behavioural causes of inappropriate elimination. They will gain awareness of the fact that elimination is intrinsically reinforcing and why. They will learn about management at home, what to do with puppies who "don't seem to get it!", and when and how to stop delivering reinforcement.
